1999 actionThe heart of your custom rifle is a Montana Rifle Co. Model 1999 action in stainless steel.  It combines time-proven virtues of Mauser 98 and Pre-64 Model 70 Winchester with the superior modern metallurgy.  We have built custom rifles based on virtually every foreign and domestic bolt action made in the last 113 years.  The 1999 action is superior to all others, for it combines all the virtues and none of the vices of its predecessors.

From the Mauser, come the Controlled Round Feed and the proven spring steel claw extractor.  These have long been prized by serious riflemen, who know that dangerous game and harsh environments demand reliable controlled loading and positive extraction.

For the shooter safety, the receiver incorporates both dual gas ports and a flanged bolt sleeve.  In the event of a catastrophic cartridge case failure, gases will safely vent away from the shooter's face.  “C” style inner breech collar ring eliminates the unsupported cartridge case area found in the Model 70 Winchester and increases the strength and stiffness of the action.  Model 70 style Three-Position Safety, and the non-binding dovetailed bolt lugs ensure smooth, rapid operation even under the most stressful conditions.

The MRC 1999 action has a full-contact-area water table with integral recoil lug for bedding in the stock.  Most current production firearms omit this feature and use a simple tube construction with a plate sandwiched between the action and barrel.  That type is cheap to produce but sacrifices positive contact between the action and stock. The 1999 has a machined Mauser-type bolt release integral to the action, instead of a tiny stamped metal tab which seems like an afterthought.  It ensures proper bolt retention and allows easy one-handed bolt removal.  The action features a milled steel floor plate and trigger guard, preferred by shooters, instead of the cheap cast alloy or aluminum encouraged by accounting departments.

Territorial Gunsmiths will construct your rifle with greater detail than the factories can afford to offer on mass produced firearms.  To enhance accuracy and reliability we “Blueprint” your action performing the following operations.
  • The receiver engagement face and inner
“C” ring are trued for full contact
  • The bolt face is surfaced for concentricity
    and alignment with bore
  • Recoil lug engagement is hand lapped
  • Feed ramps and action rails are adjusted
and set for your chosen caliber.
  • Stone and tune the trigger to your desired weight of pull.
Your action will then be fitted with a premium barrel in your choice of caliber with a twist rate that will maximize the potential of the bullet you wish to shoot. The barrel will be contoured and cut to your specification to establish the weight and balance point of the rifle. After being chambered in your chosen centerfire caliber, from .22 through .505, the barreled action will be cryogenically treated to normalize the steel and remove any metallurgical or machining induced stresses.

Laminate stockOur proprietary laminate stock combine the look and feel of wood with the stability and accuracy provided by synthetics.  This design features the comb height required by modern optics with proper drop and pitch to reduce felt recoil while retaining classical lines.  To further enhance accuracy each barreled action is pillar bedded to your stock with the cartridge area fully supported.

Right and left handed models are available: Ultra Lite, Hunter, Magnum, Dangerous Game and Varmint.  We look forward to collaborating with you in designing and manufacturing, Your Personal Rifle built for the shot of a lifetime.
